Decent Music PR puts the spotlight on Jermaine Fleur asking him five key questions. . .
Welcome to the Decent Music PR blog. Please introduce yourself. And how would you describe your music? Who are your biggest influences?
Hi everyone! I’m Jermaine Fleur, an artist and singer-songwriter from Amsterdam, and hopefully, the guy who will bring some extra sunshine into your lives with my music and vibe! I’d describe my music as something that makes you move and feel good—whether it’s dancing or just getting you in the good feels. My goal is to put a smile on people's faces and of course, get their bodies moving.
My biggest influences are the legends: of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Prince. Michael is the ultimate artist, Stevie’s an incredible songwriter, and Prince’s uniqueness always stands out. I’m also inspired by modern artists like Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars! There are so many more artists that inspire me!
Who do you create music for, and what messages do you want people to get from your music?
I basically create music for everybody—anybody who wants to listen, connect, and feel good. But also for people who are healing, getting over a heartbreak, or who just want to be touched by something real. My music is for anyone who wants a little extra sunshine in their life.
The message I want to spread is that life is such a beautiful journey, but it’s short. So be bold, be playful, be positive and shine. Live your life to the fullest while spreading love! I want to bring those good vibes into people's lives like I'm hopefully doing with my debut single "For One Day". Give them a nice vibe to dance to.
My ultimate goal is to make a difference in people's lives, for the good, and inspire others to live a full, happy and loving life. And hopefully, me and my music can spark that feeling and spread that love and positivity even further.
If you could imagine the best moment for a first-time listener to listen to your music, what would it be?
Ooh, good question! I think the best moment for a first-time listener would be someone just going about their day, maybe on autopilot, and then my music comes on and sparks a little joy. It could make them smile, bounce a little, or tap into some good vibes. Maybe they’re in the car, not thinking about much, and then suddenly they hear my song and it makes them feel happy or reminds them of a nice memory. I want it to bring that extra bit of joy into their day—whether a little or a lot.
What is one song that you wish you wrote yourself, and why?
Honestly, this has to be one of the hardest questions I’ve ever had to answer! It took me 30 minutes, haha, and I still don’t feel like I’ve landed on something conclusive. I mean, I could easily say "My Cherie Amour" by Stevie Wonder because it’s one of the most beautiful, touching songs ever. Or "24k Magic" by Bruno Mars, which was so fresh and nostalgic at the same time. And then there’s "Señorita" by Justin Timberlake, which was a perfect blend of R&B and pop, and it felt so different when it came out.
But today, I’m going to go with something different. There are so many amazing artists out there who might not have the huge spotlight yet, but they write incredible songs. One of them is my good friend Cimo Fränkel. He has a song called "Where Do You Hide Your Love" and I truly believe that if it got the same attention as for example a "Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd or any other huge one, it would’ve been a massive global hit.
But my personal favourite by Cimo is "Dance Till Dawn." It’s one of those feel-good songs that also has this touch of melancholy, and it just hits right in the feels. If you listen to both of these tracks, you’ll probably understand why I wish I wrote them. True, perhaps undiscovered, gems!
What have you learned from your artistry through the years? What lessons do you think you could’ve only come through your music?
I’ve learned so much from my artistry over the years, but one of the biggest lessons is that this is exactly what I’m meant to do—make people happy and put smiles on their faces. Being an artist for over a decade has helped me embrace that even more.
One thing I’ve realized is that sometimes it takes the simplest things to make someone else feel amazing. Whether it’s a note, a look, a smile, or even a picture, you can brighten someone’s day just like that. Music has really opened my eyes to that power.
Another big lesson that’s always stuck with me is that you have to do what you love the most, and when you do, it loves you right back. I even wrote a song about it! I think many people are afraid to make the choice to follow what they really love because society tries to push them in different directions. But if you go after your dreams, work hard, and keep pushing, life becomes so fulfilling.
The journey itself—doing what you love every day—is such a blessing. Yes, hitting your goals and making your wildest dreams come true is so amazing, but the path to getting there is also such a gift. So, do what you love, and let it reward you. And don’t let anyone tell you to dream smaller, because it’s your dream and your responsibility to make it a reality. So go do it.
