Decent Music PR puts the spotlight on Chloey Rose asking her five key questions. . .
Welcome to the Decent Music PR blog. Please introduce yourself. And how would you describe your music?
Aww heyyy! I'm Chloey Rose, a singer-songwriter and BBC introducing supported artist from Lincolnshire in the UK. I am known to write deeply emotional and cinematic alt-pop ballads with a theatrical twist. Lately, though I have been inspired to develop my musical direction as my new song 'Runaway' is a more upbeat pop track with a liberating sound. Many of my songs are story-driven and based around personal experiences which often explore themes of love, empowerment, heartbreak and personal growth. My music has a blend of Kate Bush, Taylor Swift, Adele and Paloma Faith.
Who are your biggest influences?
I would say my biggest musical influence is 'Kate Bush'. As a musician and songwriter, she is a trailblazer, her music is so different from any other artist I have heard or seen. I love that she's not afraid to be experimental musically and in my eyes is a master of storytelling. She influenced me musically to not be afraid to be seen as unique and theatrical when writing music.
Who do you create music for, and what messages do you want people to get from your music?
I create music for anyone who can relate to the challenges of love, loss, heartbreak and the unsung heroes. Most of all I write music because I really want to help heal others through their own personal challenges, whether they have been in an unhealthy situation or relationship, I really hope my songs will be a reminder to others to be strong, empowered and liberated.
If you could imagine the best moment for a first-time listener to listen to your music, what would it be? What is one song that you wish you wrote yourself, and why?
Ooo I love this question! It really depends on which songs they listen to! If they are playing one of my alt-pop ballads I can imagine a first-time listener sitting relaxed on the sofa with their headphones in, reflecting on a memory or experience, feet up and possibly a cosy hot chocolate or cup of tea to go with it! But... if they listened to my new single which is super fun and has a punchy beat. I could imagine them singing the chorus out loud with friends reflecting on relationship troubles whilst being all sassy and dancing to it. There are many songs I wish I wrote but I'd say songs like 'Running Up That Hill' or Every Breath You Take. These particularly have left a lasting impression on me and I could play these songs over and over again!
What have you learned from your artistry through the years? What lessons do you think you could’ve only come through your music?
A career in music can often feel like a rollercoaster, there can be many disappointments along the way but also amazing successes as hard work does pay off eventually. I wouldn't change it for the world, I will never give up on my dream and will always encourage others to be bold, be brave, keep going, be resilient and be determined. My songwriting journey has taught me to not be afraid to be authentic lyrically by sharing my own personal experiences and disappointments. I love how something beautiful can be created out of a painful experience and this can be used to shed light on these challenges and help heal and empower others. Music is like therapy!
