Spotlight Q&A: 5 Key Questions with ANJEL

Nigerian rising music artist ANJEL is paving her way in the R&B and Afrobeat scene. As a multifaceted singer-songwriter, who classifies herself as a musical sponge, ANJEL’s influences span a variety of sounds, from around the world - from Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat to the pop anthems of Avril Lavigne, and even Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan. Her latest single, 'Sere' is a vibrant ode to the energy of Lagos, capturing the essence of her nostalgic memories of the city.

Decent Music PR puts the spotlight on ANJEL asking him five key questions. . .

Who are your biggest influences?

I would have to say Rihanna, Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus and Doja Cat

Who do you create music for, and what messages do you want people to get from your music?

I create music definitely for the people who love to have good times and definitely the lovers, I’m a romantic myself and want people to listen to my music to relate or remember a feeling or a day or a time that something meaningful happened, good or bad, but still I want them to dance and have a good time. To have the dichotomy of both happiness and sadness within the music

If I could imagine the best moment for a first time listener to listen to my music, what would it be?

It would be on a night out with friends, two drinks in, the vibes are kicking in and then my song comes on right as the dance floor is heating up.

What is one song you wish you wrote and why?

Bad Romance by Lady Gaga for sure.

What have you learned from your artistry through the years? What lessons do you think you could’ve only come through your music?

I have learnt that it takes hard work and resilience, as well as patience with myself. It’s easy to get caught up or lost and I’ve learnt through music that it’s good to be consistent with everything in life, but also trust your gut always and know when to push, or take a step back.
